Metformin protects against carbon tetrachloride hepatotoxicity in mice.
In the present study, the hepatoprotective effect of metformin (Met), a dimethylbiguanide anti-hyperglycemic, was examined in a mouse model of liver damage induced by chronic repeated administration of carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) (5 microl/kg, twice a week for 12 weeks). Met, when given orally in drinking water at an estimated daily dose of 25 or 50 mg/kg for 10 weeks starting 2 weeks after C...

The present study was carried out to evaluate the hepatoprotective and antioxidant effect of the methanol extract of Eupatorium ayapana (MEEA) (Family- Asteraceae) leaves in Wistar albino rats. The different groups of animals were administered with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) at 72 h interval. The MEEA at 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg and silymarin 25 mg/kg were administered to the CCl4 treated ...
متن کاملEffect of propolis extract on acute carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity.
Ethanolic extract of propolis was administered to rats intoxicated by carbon tetrachloride. Administration of bolus dose of CCl4 (1.5 ml/kg, ip) resulted in elevation of serum transaminases and serum alkaline phosphatase activities. Levels of hepatic lipid peroxidation were significantly increased. On the contrary, there was significant decrease in hepatic reduced glutathione level. The propoli...
متن کاملHepatoprotective activity of ellagic acid against carbon tetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
Administration of CCl4 to normal rats and consequent oral feeding with ellagic acid (50 mg/kg) provided a significant protection against the biochemical alterations in serum and liver produced by CCl4. In vitro experiments showed that liver microsomes from animals treated with ellagic acid and CCl4, decreased lipid peroxidation compared to microsome prepared from rats exposed to CCl4 alone.
متن کاملEffects of Pistacia Vera Hydro-Alcoholic Extract on Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Male Rats
Oxidizing agents play a major role in the pathogenesis of liver diseases. Pistacia vera (P. vera), contains many antioxidant substances including coenzyme 10, vitamin E and beta-carotene. The current study was designed to evaluate the probable effects of P. vera on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatotoxicity in male rats. Frothy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups inc...
